I learned a new word today — chartreuse (/ʃɑːˈtrɜːz/, UK version), a colour halfway between green and yellow.
When I looked at the pictures of the dendrobium orchids with purple lip that I took at dad’s garden some time ago, I knew I just couldn’t call them yellow orchids because the shade of yellow does not resemble that of butter, lemon, egg yolk, rapeseed or sunflowers to name a few and that was when I discovered the shade of “chartreuse”.
The colour of this dendrobium is chartreuse yellow, i.e. yellow with a hint of green and I think it is refreshing!
