God is good… all the time!
And all the time… God is good!

I believe all Christians are familiar with the saying and will respond when someone says the first part of the sentences either in a Sunday service or some Christian conferences or events. It is a reminder to us all and also an affirmation that our God indeed is good.

Our life journey might not be a smooth and enjoyable ride throughout; there are bound to be obstacles or situations along the way that challenge us and sometimes make us feel defeated in more ways than one. When that happens, do we simply lose faith?

Let us just for one minute take our eyes off the many global issues that cause us to feel utterly helpless, or the exasperating and disturbing political situations in our own country that have rocked to the core of our trust, sense of security and belief for the whole political and legal system, and look at something at a more personal level. When we come across obstacles of various sizes in different phases of our life journey that affect us personally and profoundly, do we still stand firm, proclaim and embrace the essence of the two sentences highlighted in the beginning, that “God is good, all the time.  And all the time, God is good”?

In recent years, I have witnessed many incidents that have really puzzled me. I see many mature Christians, some of them serve at church and most of them are extremely well-versed with the Word of God but they do not walk in confidence and especially when they are faced with some kind of challenges in their lives, they give in and are completely paralysed with fear and worry!  Paralysed! Defeated! Floored! Seeing such response and behaviour, I cannot help but to wonder where their faith level is. Instead of surrendering to the powerful and merciful God, they hand over their control to the enemy and let him play with their mind, and allow him to steal their peace and confidence.

1 John 4:4
You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

We pray, and trust that God will meet all our needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus. When I come before God and pray, and just surrender to Him all of my worries regardless how big these “Goliaths” in my life are and how distraught I am, His precious peace just silently falls upon me and I am able to rest in His presence.

I am a simple person as I believe God is in ultimate control and I just need to trust Him. I always say it is the darkest before dawn; things around us might get worse before they get better, or if they ever get better at all but let us not lose faith or hope, for God is good.  And as for now, let us just rest in God’s presence and pray that He will watch over us, sustain us and grant us peace!
