liminal space

my liminal space

I was introduced to the term “liminal space” recently.

“Liminal” is derived from the Latin word “limen”, which means “threshold”. Liminal space is a place of transition, it can be in architecture and from one physical location to the other, such as long empty corridors, staircases, carparks or uninhabited areas in a building etc., and it can also be a state of being.

connecting the dots, nothing is random, thanksgiving, praise God, desert rose, adenium

connecting the dots

When the dust has settled, you will discover it was never random! 當塵埃落定後,你會發現事情根本不是偶然的。 “My season with this job has come to an end,” I explained to the team at work after I tendered my resignation in very short notice in August last year. The heads of department were in utter disbelief that I would leave…

containers, miracle of the 17 containers, obedience, trust, Proverbs 3:5-6

miracle of the 17 containers

“I want to share with you my story of the 17 containers!” was the line blurted out by Catherine excitedly during one of our weekly connect group meetings recently that brought us a story about trust, humility and the blessings of obedience. The incident took place a few years ago when Catherine had already achieved…

decluttering, spiritual decluttering

when less is more

“Constantly choose rather to want less, than to have more.” — Thomas à Kempis Reflecting on the theme of “contentment” from our daily devotion on Every Day with Jesus, I decided that it was time to do some decluttering — to rid of some of the things that I no longer want or need and…

medical mission trip lumampau sipitang sabah

reaching out, changing lives!

The list of information we received just short of a week before we were due for our weekend medical mission trip was brief. All we got was — electricity by generator set (still under repair), bring torch, sleeping bag and mosquito net, weather can be cold so bring something warm… then there was the assignment…

do you feel the music?

We do not have a choir at our church nor do we have a huge team of worship leaders.  Apart from the musicians, I think there are only about 7 who actually sing and with their weekly rotations and a couple of them double up as musicians as well, we usually see just 4 –…

faith and focus

First, let me start by telling you a story about people walking on the sea… Matthew 14:22-32 22 Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd.23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later…

am I ready?

Most of us had never expected that we would experience a 6.0-magnitude earthquake in Kota Kinabalu in our lifetime as our state Sabah is outside the Pacific Ring of Fire, unlike our neighbouring countries the Philippines and Indonesia. The tremour we felt in KK early morning on 5 June lasted for only about 15 seconds…

red

The colour red — reminds me of Chinese New Year, which coincidentally happens to be two days away.  Almost everything relates to the Lunar New Year/ spring festival (春節) is in red, from the decorations with red tanglungs (lanterns), red peonies and red ornaments, red spring scrolls at the door, red fire crackers, red angpaus…

an end and a beginning

In a matter of hours we will be ushering in the New Year which will conclude an eventful 2014.  Looking back, although there have been many highs and lows throughout the year, probably more lows than the highs globally, nationally and locally, and even personally, I still have many things to be thankful for and…
